Asus has been working hard to bring its tablets in line with the latest iteration of Android. The Asus EeePad Transformer made the step up in late February. Today Asus published a notice on its Facebook page stating that it is the turn of the Asus Eee Pad Slider – the SL101 to tuck into some ICS.
The Asus Eee Pad Slider SL101 arrived in quiet style at the end of 2011 with its rather unique integrated slide-out keyboard mechanism. Much like its ‘transforming’ cousin, the TF101, the Eee Pad Slider launched with both a Tegra 2 chipset at its heart and Android 3.2 Honeycomb running on top; effectively the Gingerbread equivalent for Android tablets (albeit more of an interim version of Android between Gingerbread and ICS).
The most notable additions beyond behind-the-scenes improvements to security and stability include:
- Folder creation on homescreens
- Camera quick-launch from the SL101’s lock screen
- Additional ways to perform a screen capture
- Improved browser functionality
- Special camera effects and native photo editing capabilities
- Swipe to close for both applications and notifications
- Font size modifications and interface tweaks
Users can pick this update now, but fear not if there’s no notification awaiting you, these rollouts can take time. Head to ‘Settings’ and look for ‘System Firmware Update’.
If you’re tempted to pick up the Asus EeePad Slider SL101 now that it’s running ICS, it costs around £380, making it notably cheaper than the equivalent TF101 Transformer which we checked costs around £430.
