BlackBerry Priv: In a nutshell

Our bite-sized round-up of the specs, UK price and release date for the Blackberry Priv, Blackberry’s exciting new slider phone that runs Android rather than BlackBerry OS.

Why should I care about the BlackBerry Priv?

Okay, so look past that stupid name (why not call it the BlackBerry Crapper?) and the fact that BlackBerry is disappearing from view faster than the British sun in winter time. The Priv is an interesting phone because A) it’s a slider and you don’t see those anywhere these days and B) it’s the first BB phone to rock Android instead of BlackBerry’s own janky OS. Plus it packs some impressive specs.

BlackBerry Priv specs and features

The BlackBerry Priv features the traditional QWERTY keyboard, but this time it’s hidden away beneath the Priv’s mighty 5.4-inch screen; just slide it up to reveal the physical keys. That display is a Quad HD beast, perfect for enjoying movies on the go, while the Snapdragon 808 processor and 3GB of RAM should handle games and apps with ease.

Android Lollipop should also run like a dream, with full access to the Google Play store to download more apps.

And amateur photographers will enjoy the 18-megapixel camera with image stabilisation to keep your photos and videos (up to 4k supported) sharp. On the front there’s a 5-megapixel selfie camera.
