Does the Sony Xperia Z5 heat up when shooting video?

We put the Sony Xperia Z5 through our punishing 4K video challenge to see how long it can record a movie before it overheats.

The Xperia Z3+ suffers from a rather unfortunate flaw, in that intensive tasks cause it to get a little toasty. In fact, recording 4K video and using the Face Mask mode is a sure-fire way to get it all hot and bothered, with the camera app actually shutting down to prevent overheating.

So, does the Xperia Z5 suffer a similar fate, as it uses the same processor as the Xperia Z3+?

To see, we tested an Xperia Z5 at IFA 2015 by recording 4K video non-stop, keeping a close eye on the clock. The phone was already quite warm from constant use at the demo booth, but after ten minutes of 4K recording the Xperia Z5 was still going strong.

Ten turned into eleven, and then finally at just before the twelve minute mark, the phone automatically stopped recording to avoid overheating.

That result is about the same as we managed on the Xperia Z3 and better than the handful of minutes we usually managed with the Z3+, so the Xperia Z5 seems to be a jump back in the right direction temperature-wise.
