HTC One Android 4.2 update coming soon, new features detailed

Dying to know when your brand spanking new HTC One will be upgraded from Android 4.1 to Android 4.2.2? You won’t have to wait much longer. A tweet from the head of HTC Russia let slip that the update is coming in a matter of weeks. Better yet, we have a good idea of what to expect thanks to a leaked ROM and a ton of screenshots.

Andrey Kormiltsev’s tweet indicates that the update will start going out in the middle of June, only a few weeks away. The leaked ROM, meanwhile, depicts exactly what HTC One owners can look forward to when the update does hit. The two big features include the extended quick settings menu, giving users access to radio and brightness toggles, as well as a new battery percentage icon that has been sorely missing from past HTC devices.

Android’s Daydream feature is also included – think of it as a glorified screensaver for your device – as is an improved BlinkFeed which features LinkedIn and Instagram integration. In addition, the update will give HTC One owners the ability to long-press the capacitive home button to bring up menu settings.

If the update does indeed start going out in the next few weeks, then you can expect to see it hitting unlocked handsets at first, followed by carrier branded models. We’ll let you know as soon as HTC starts pushing out the 4.2.2 update for the One.
