iOS 4.0.1 update adds larger signal bars, doesn’t fix the antenna issue

iOS 4.0.1, aka the update that will “fix” the iPhone 4’s signal issues, is out. We just downloaded it and while the ‘signal formula’ has been improved and the bars appear to be slightly taller, we can still recreate the signal issue by covering the black strip in the lower left corner of the metal band.

At 6pm today Apple is holding a press conference, so we’ll hopefully get more information regarding the antenna. It’s worth noting that not everyone experiences the ‘covering the band’ problem, and we doubt that Apple will recall the iPhone 4. Whatever happens it’s going to be a very interesting conference.
