LG’s G Flex includes a curved 6-inch display and a ‘self healing’ rear cover

LG has finally unveiled its curved smartphone, the G Flex. Just as leaks indicated, the phone is curved on the vertical axis, lending itself well to inevitable bananaphone jokes.

The key feature for the phone, though, seems to be the self repairing back. LG says that the G Flex is the first smartphone with an elastic coating on the rear that can repair any small nicks and scratches without any intervention. The phone makes use of LG’s stacked battery technology too, and has a much higher capacity (3,500mAh) versus Samsung’s Galaxy Round (2,800mAh).

Still, the resolution of the display isn’t as high as Samsung’s curved phone – LG has equipped the G Flex with a 6-inch 720p RGB OLED display. Other specifications include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 13-megapixel camera.

The G Flex will initially go on sale in South Korea, but it sounds like LG has plans to bring the phone to the UK. The company says that it will be announcing exact pricing and availability info in due course.
