Photos and specs for the third Moto G have already leaked, so what can we expect from the 2015 model of this great-value, game-changing mobile?
Motorola is set to launch its latest budget-friendly Moto G model and we’ve been trawling through the rumours and gossip to bring you everything we know so far, in an easily-digestible form…
Why should I care about the Moto G (2015)?
Since Motorola launched the very first Moto G back in 2013, the phone has been a dedicated benchmark by which other budget smartphones are judged. After just six months on the market the Moto G became Motorola’s biggest selling smartphone ever, and it’s easy to see why – for just over £100 you get HD visuals, a slick vanilla Android experience and – with the second model from 2014 at least – a respectable cut-price camera.
With the third Moto G, we’re expecting even greater things. Especially as the likes of the Voda Smart Ultra 6 has really raised the bar with a Full HD screen and solid optics.
Moto G (2015) design
From leaked images (above) and leaked renders from an accessories manufacturer who wishes to remain anonymous (below), the Moto G unsurprisingly looks very similar to its predecessors. Expect basic, clean lines and the familiar dimple just underneath the camera’s flash, which appears to be a dual LED effort this time around.
The device’s back-plate appears to be made of grooved, patterned plastic, which should add some much-needed grip to proceedings. The camera now seems to be sat on a steel-coloured strip, lending an air of LG’s recent designs but without the rear-mounted controls.
Moto G (2015) features and specs
Current reports suggest the next Moto G will sport a 5-inch 720p display as before, but we’ve also heard rumblings of a 5.2-inch screen. We’re hoping for a Full HD 1080p panel this time, to match Voda’s own budget blower.
Performance should be provided by one of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 processors, so we can expect an Adreno 306 GPU and support for Quick Charge (1.0 and 2.0) too. We’re hoping that the 1GB RAM can cope with Android 5.1.1 ably, although that means the new Moto G probably won’t be too future-proofed, like other mid-range mobiles.
Leaks also point to a 13-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel secondary, which should turn out a fairly decent selfie.
The most recent Moto G leak also reveals 8GB of internal storage space and a micro SD slot (nothing revolutionary there, although of course the first Moto G missed out on expandable storage). A 2,300mAh battery rounds off the specs, which should stretch to a full day of use.
When will the Moto G (2015) be released in the UK and how much will it cost?
We’re predicting (and hoping) that Motorola maintains the same pricing structure that we’ve seen with previous models, keeping the device under £150. Judging by recent price drops, we’re expecting Motorola to unveil the third Moto G in September at IFA.
