Nokia Lumia users in Finland get Nokia TV

Nokia has confirmed that its leaked Nokia TV service is coming to Lumia smartphones such as the Nokia Lumia 800 or Nokia Lumia 710. If you live in Finland.

Rumours first began circulating that a Windows Phone 7 television app – named Nokia TV – had been created when images were posted on a Russian website.

“You may have seen some excitement online about a new TV service from Nokia for our Lumia smartphones,” said a posting on the official Nokia Conversations blog.

“We are very pleased to be able to confirm that Nokia TV, the latest Lumia entertainment offering from Nokia following Nokia Music and Nokia Reading, will be introduced in Finland in the coming weeks.”

The service creates a free hub for catch-up TV services and Lumia smartphone users will be able to browse or search through the available catalogues from local broadcasters and then stream a show directly to their phone – without any sign up or registration.

“Finland is the ideal country in which to introduce this service due to its advanced mobile user base and great existing broadcaster catch-up TV services,” said Mika Suomela, head of TV and video at Nokia.

With a large advanced mobile user base in Britain and great catch-up services such as iPlayer, ITV Player, 4OD and Demand 5, we’d like to put in our order now for a UK Nokia TV service.
