The Sony SmartWatch, the successor to the Sony Ericsson LiveView adds touch functionality to a wrist watch. Placing a host of useful information at the tip of your finger with no need to remove your phone from your pocket, the SmartWatch can control your music, read your text messages and notify you of Facebook and Twitter updates.
In terms of design, the Sony SmartWatch is a standalone iPod nano-esque device sporting a clip, and ships with a rubber strap giving it an optional watch form-factor. It’s immediately much more appealing in terms than its predecessor with no bendy plastic clip-on components or flimsy connectors.
With just one button on the right hand side, all interaction other than pairing and powering is achieved via the touch screen. Swiping up, down, left and right is simple enough but it took us a bit of time to figure out how to go back a step. Turns out, it’s achieved in a pinch.
Our Sony SmartWatch is running non-final software and we’ve just gotten our hands on it.
