Sony Tablet S Ice Cream Sandwich video

Designed to resemble a folded magazine, the Sony Tablet S was Sony’s answer to the slew of 10.1-inch dual-core Android tablets that came out last year and with a fresh Ice Cream Sandwich update, it’s just been given a new lease of life. With an already heavily customised user interface, we’re here to give you a quick insight into what to expect from your Sony Tablet S with Android 4.0.

To recap, the Sony Tablet S packs a 9.4-inch display making it slightly sharper than the majority of 10.1-inch tablets out there. Sporting the same resolution, the Sony Tablet S packs a 1280×800 LCD screen along with PlayStation certification and a host of UI customisations. Also packing a full sized SD card slot, it’s the perfect tab for a digital camera user who doesn’t want a keyboard dock.

On the homescreen, key UI tweaks include four shortcuts up top to the browser, mail, remote control and social feeds. At the bottom Sony have included a really handy pop up window tool which reminds us of the pop up video player on the Samsung Galaxy S3. This enables either the remote control, a web browser window or a calculator to open in a floating window.

In terms of the Ice Cream Sandwich update, Sony haven’t opted to add any more of their quirky functionality to the mix over the original version, instead the post-update S comes complete with the stock task manager and the option to swipe notifications out of the way as standard, as well as access to your tablet’s developer settings. Sony have also chosen to incorporate Ice Cream Sandwich’s native horizontal scrolling apps drawer which makes perfect sense.

We liked the Tablet S when we first saw it and now we like it even more. Ice Cream Sandwich has landed in the nick of time and Sony have avoided being branded the tardiest tablet updaters on the scene.
