Sony’s Xperia Z5 Compact is once again a no-compromise shrunken version of the all-new Xperia Z5 flagship phone, packing strong specs and pretty much all of the premium features, including the new fingerprint scanner.
We’re still massive fans of Sony’s Xperia Z3 Compact – as proved in our recent one year re-review – so the new Xperia Z5 Compact is one of our most hotly anticipated smartphones of 2015. And with an all-new 23-megapixel camera and fingerprint sensor, the Xperia Z5 Compact still boasts some of the very best specs and features of any sub-5-inch smartphone.

Design-wise, you once again you have a 4.6-inch 720p HD screen, but the Xperia Z5 Compact also now boasts an uncovered USB port for easy access, while retaining its water resistance creds. And the power button is identical to the full-sized Xperia Z5’s, hiding the same fingerprint sensor for securing your mobile.
Inside, a few things have changed too. The battery is now a slightly larger-capacity 2700mAh cell, with Sony still promising two full days of battery life. And the processor has been upgraded to a Snapdragon 810 chipset, with 2GB of RAM to keep things flowing smoothly. Here’s hoping the Z5 Compact doesn’t become a miniature inferno, after the Xperia Z3+ overheating woes.
As usual, you don’t get a stripped-back camera experience with the mini model. Sony has crammed the same 23-megapixel Exmor RS snapper into the Xperia Z5 Compact, complete with 4K video capture, the new and improved Steady Shot to reduce video wobble and a supremely fast autofocus.

Rounding off the Xperia Z5 Compact’s specs is the 32GB of built-in storage, expandable up to a further 200GB via the microSD memory card slot.
Expect the Xperia Z5 Compact to hit UK stores in October 2015, the same as the Xperia Z5 flagship phone. There’s no confirmation on a UK price yet, but we’re expecting between £400 and £450. Networks such as O2 are taking pre-orders now.
