Vertu has released its latest smartphone and the first to run Android. The Vertu TI is a titanium black leather phone costing £6700.
Vertu has a reputation for its high-end (high-priced) mobile phones, but until now the company has typically used Symbian as its base operating system. The Vertu TI runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, bringing access to Gmail, the Google Play Store and Google Drive.
Elsewhere the specifications are very mid-range and include a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel primary camera with auto focus and flash that can capture 1080p HD movies and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.
Bearing the Vertu name means the TI is no normal phone though. Constructed from lightweight Titanium five time stronger than plastic smartphones, it has black ceramic detailing and a 3.7-inch sapphire crystal WVGA screen. It even incoporates symphonic sound by the London Symphony orchestra tuned in collaboration with Bang and Olufsen.
