Infiniti Q30 Premium Active Compact is a Mercedes-based hatchback

Infiniti has revealed the first picture of the Q30 Premium Active Compact ahead of its public unveiling at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The Infiniti Q30 Premium Active Compact hatchback is based on the 2013 concept car (also revealed in Frankfurt) and is underpinned by the MLA platform used by Mercedes for the A-Class, CLA and GLA. It has been designed for urban types who might otherwise be tempted by a BMW 1 Series or Audi A3.

Besides the unmistakable Japanese styling, the Q30 promises to deliver ‘urban individuality’, a ‘dynamic drive’ and an ‘excellent ride and handling’. No specific details have been revealed beyond how the car will look externally.

The partnership between Renault-Nissan and Mercedes-Benz hints there will be a choice of Renault and Merc engines to choose from, but there’s no concrete information to back up the claim.

We do, however, know Infiniti will be building the Q30 in Sunderland, having been tested and developed in Europe. So that’s good news for UK workers if the car sells well.

Expect more information as we head towards the Frankfurt Motor Show. Until then, enjoy the single picture and check out our review of its pricier, larger Q70 cousin.
