The first official snap of the new Jaguar F-Type has been revealed. The image was originally leaked on a US website but was then officially released by Jaguar itself once the gorgeous new cat was out of the bag.

Like the beautiful C-X16 concept prototype seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the F-Type has a wide front grille, black splitter and two sporty air intakes either side. The headlights are the same, too, with a single lamp sitting above an LED strip. Even the bonnet includes two vents just below the windscreen instead – if you were a fan of the C-X16, you’ll love this.
Also revealed in the picture is a choice of at least three different alloy wheels, three paintjobs and a glimpse at the side of the vehicle.
Without seeing the back of the car, it’s impossible to say whether the F-Type borrows yet more inspiration from the C-X16, but we’re hoping it does. A set of thin, almost sinister-looking tail lights alongside quad exhausts and a fat diffuser would make for one alluring derriere.
Jaguar has said to expect three different versions: a 340PS (335bhp) and a 380PS (374bhp) version using its 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine, and a 5.0-litre V8 supercharged unit if you fancy a slightly throatier soundtrack and more power. All come with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Jaguar admits the F-Type is the first true sports car it has made in a long time, which means it should hold its own in the corners as well as being brutally quick in a straight line. We’ll be the judge of that, shall we?
Prices are rumoured to start at £55,000. Check back for more details once the car is properly unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. In the meantime, have a gander at the video below.
