Jeremy Clarkson has finally named his Amazon motoring show

And it’s not Gear Knobs, Gop Tear, Men of Cars, Dicks of Hazard, Top Chumps, Overdrive, Wheel Be Alright, And Then There Were Three, Flappy Paddles or Punchy McPunchface. You were all wrong.

Jeremy Clarkson has, in fact, called the new Amazon show The Grand Tour (GT for short, which is Top Gear aka TG in reverse), referencing the layout of the new show, which will involve travelling the world as part of a, well, grand tour.

On the Amazon website, The new show’s description reads: “After months of deliberation and lots of useful suggestions from the public, for which the guys are very grateful, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have decided that, because they are taking their new Amazon Prime Show around the world, it will be called The Grand Tour.”

Because the Top Gear reincarnate will pop up around the globe, the studio has to be mobile. And so studio audience recordings will take place within a giant tent, with tickets to attend awarded through prize draws in the summer of 2016.

As to where the shows will be is anyone’s guess, but Clarkson confirmed there will be 12 episodes per series: “We have 12 shows. One is a Christmas thing. That means 11 locations for our tent. Many requests from Mexico,” he tweeted.

Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have already started filming. The trio were spotted driving around Cobham in Surrey in a ‘brilliant’ Mercedes and we have seen photos of the new Ford Mustang and Focus RS being put through their paces.

Before the news was announced, Clarkson tweeted: “Start the smoke. We have a name,” ending months of the team trying to come up with something and failing badly.

We get the tiniest feeling the name was in the bag a long time ago and for a number of reasons – although the URL is being used by a travel company in Peterborough so maybe not.
