Renault has announced a UK price and specs for the Kadjar, a crossover that is the bigger brother of the Captur and based on the same platform as the Nissan Qashqai.
Renault took the wraps off the Kadjar at the Geneva Motor Show in 2015. It gets its name from a combination of two French words, ‘quad’ and ‘jaillir’, which when combined means ‘to emerge quickly’.
Three engines are available: a 1.2-litre turbocharged TCe four-cylinder petrol with 130hp, 1.5-litre Energy dCi four-cylinder diesel with 110hp and a 1.6-litre Energy dCi 130hp diesel. The most frugal is the dCi 110, which Renault claims can do 74.3mpg and emit just 99g/km of CO2.
None of the engines are very sporty, but the quickest of the bunch is the dCi 130 with two-wheel drive, which can manage 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds and has a top speed of 118mph. Four-wheel drive is available at a cost if you crave improved traction.
The range is comprised four trim levels. Standard equipment throughout the range includes electronic stability control, ABS, cruise control, speed limiter, Hill Start Assist, six airbags, ISOFIX child mount and seat belts with load limiters and pretensioners in the front.
A bottom-spec Expression+ also has front foglights, LED daytime running lights, 7-inch TFT instrument panel, USB socket, DAB radio with aux input, air-conditioning, Bluetooth, driver’s seat adjustment, tinted windows and an automatic electronic parking brake.
Dynamique Nav, which is the next step up, includes 17-inch alloys, chrome exterior detailing, automatic door locking, dual-zone climate control, automatic wipers and lights, leather-trimmed steering wheel, driver’s seat lumbar adjustment, R-Link 2 multimedia system with navigation and European mapping, lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition.
Dynamique S Nav ups the ante further with 19-inch alloys, front and rear parking sensors, nicer cloth and leather upholstery, one-touch folding rear bench, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors and a multi-position boot floor.
Atop the range is the Signature Nav, which has 19-inch alloys, full LEf headlights, panoramic sunroof, Bose sound system with a subwoofer, height-adjustable front passenger seat, Nappa leather steering wheel and painted front and rear skid plates, side and boot kick plates.
All models come with Renault’s four-year or 100,000 mile warranty, emergency roadside repairs and recovery and three years of European cover.
The Renault Kajdar will be on sale from July 2015 in the UK priced from £17,995 rising to £26,295 for the Signature Nav dCi 130 4WD. Deliveries are expected to begin in September.
