The Grand Tour has a release date and a new trailer

The wait has been long, but now we can reveal when Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May return to do what they do best: Car-based tomfoolery around the globe.

The Grand Tour will launch on the 18th of November 2016 and is free to watch for anyone who has an Amazon Prime subscription, which costs £79 a year or £7.99 a month, or Amazon Instant Video, which is the same service minus speedy deliveries for £5.99 per month.

After the first episode airs, following episodes will be released weekly on a Friday for 12 weeks as part of the first of three seasons, in a deal that is said to have cost Amazon £160million.

The Grand Tour gets its name from the fact Clarkson, Hammond and May will visit various countries on a big tour, starting in Johannesburg in South Africa. Live audience stuff will be filmed in a big tent, which will be moved from location to location.

Amazon has invested a considerable sum of money in the trio, but then the old Top Gear raked in serious cash for the BBC and Clarkson and are loved on a global scale. You need only look at the fallout over ex-Top Gear presenter Chris Evans to see the majority preferred the old days.

Given that Andy Wilman (the executive producer who reinvented Top Gear with Clarkson back in 2002) is on the team and that ridiculous budget (£4.5million per episode, apparently), it can only be one hell of a spectacle ─ even if old Stiggy is absent.

Students can get a free six-month Amazon Prime trial so worth bearing in mind if you absolutely have to watch The Grand Tour, but need to save your money for beer pong and Doritos. Either way, get a taste of what to come in the following trailer.

Yes, it seems one of the episodes will feature the hypercar showdown Clarkson always wanted to do but never had the chance after being ejected from the BBC. Between the Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1, our money is on the Brit. What could go wrong, indeed?
